Strategies For Success

1. Personal Accountability
2. Many people believe that whether they are successful in life will be determined by a number of factors outside of their control. They are basically, along for the ride and whatever happens, happens.
   1. You are personally accountable for your own success.
   2. Remember, you are the architect of your own future and you can make it whatever you would like it to be.
   3. Examine the beliefs you hold about yourself. About how smart you are, how capable you are, whether you truly see yourself being successful in life. Your subconscious will work very hard at making your beliefs a reality.
      1. Some people believe they don't deserve a good marriage, or to be wealthy, or successful, because of something they did or didn't do in the past.
      2. Don't let your past control your future. Take charge of your life and change it for the better.
3. The challenge is to look at your current beliefs and try to determine what beliefs are holding you back.

1. Habits and Attitudes
2. In addition to storing your vision of your current reality, your subconscious also has another function, handling automatic behavior or habits. For example, closing the garage door when you leave your home may be a habit. You do it so often that it has become a learned behavior that you may not even be conscious of. Have you ever had trouble remembering whether in fact you closed the garage door after you have left home?
3. Your habits need to be in line with your beliefs or you will not succeed. If you believe you are an exceptional student, however, your habit is to cut classes and not study for exams you probably will not do very well academically.
4. You may need to change some of your old habits and beliefs to match your new goals.
5. What new habits do you need to develop to be successful in school? What habits do you need to acquire to be successful in your career after graduation?
6. Habits are good as long as they serve you effectively.
7. III. Creating New Habits
8. By using affirmations and visualization techniques, you can create new habits that will help you achieve your goals.
9. Professional athletes and other peak performers have used visualization techniques to help them perform at a high level. Through the power of visualization you will be able to rehearse in your mind what you want to achieve and see it happen. Model the habits of peak performers.
10. IV. Examining Your Attitude
11. Your attitude is simply the direction in which you lean. Once you set a goal, your attitude will lean you towards accomplishing it, or lean you away from it.
12. If an attitude moves us toward our goal, we say it is a positive attitude.
    1. If you have a positive attitude, you move toward your goal, you seek it out. You become attracted to the positive emotions that you associate with that goal, such as a favorite subject, music, etc.
    2. Your subconscious becomes creative and looks for opportunities to engage in pursuit of that goal.
13. If you have a negative attitude, you lean or move away from your goal.
    1. Many of us often operate with a negative attitude toward our future, or a certain subject in school, or present job or employment.
    2. We associate negative feelings or emotions with these different pursuits. As a result, your subconscious causes you to procrastinate and creatively comes up with reasons to avoid situations in which we may encounter embarrassment or failure, often moving you away from your goals.
14. Having the potential to succeed is not enough, if you have a negative attitude. Your potential is unlimited, however, it is filtered by negative attitudes and beliefs about yourself and your abilities.
15. Set your goals and develop habits that reinforce the beliefs necessary to achieve those goals. The key is to develop a positive attitude that points you in the direction of your goals.
